Where to Buy a Professional Halloween Costume

Lora Keleher, The Writers Network

Although they might be tough to find unless you live near a major city, there are places where you can buy a professional Halloween costume. Professional Halloween costumes look extremely realistic, and can set you apart from all the other trick-or-treaters, or partygoers in your neighborhood. The drawback is that they can cost thousands of dollars, and are often best used as part of haunted houses or film and theatre productions.

Costume Shops

Costume and special effect boutique shops specialize in selling costumes for film or theatre, and they typically carry costumes that you can wear on Halloween. These shops are typically located in cities where a large number of film and theatre productions occur. Typically, they provide a selection of professional-grade costumes, wigs, masks, and makeup. You can find them listed under costume and makeup shops, or check with a local theatre or production company that likely has the inside scoop on the best locations.

Halloween Stores

Specialty Halloween shops tend to pop up in the months prior to Halloween. You can find them in warehouses, trip malls, and shopping centers across the United States. These stores only open their doors around Halloween, and are often transformed throughout the year, depending on the season and closest major holiday. Some shops only carry costumes intended for home use, but many also sell professional costumes that are primarily intended for local haunted houses, and other Halloween related public events.

Online

If you don’t in a city with lots of professional shows, the best place to find a professional Halloween costume is most likely going to be online. There are a number of online sites that specialize in selling professional quality Halloween costumes.  Haunted Props sells movie-quality full-body costumes, masks, and props for a fun-filled Halloween night (http://www.hauntedprops.com). Rusty Slusser’s SPFX Masks sells realistic special effects masks that can make you look older, younger, or monstrously scary (http://www.spfxmasks.com). You can also search through a vast selection that includes both professional costumes, and costumes intended for home use at the Horror Dome (http://www.thehorrordome.com).
